Celebrities are intriguing: it’s interesting to find out about your favorite celebrities, and it’s even better when you occasionally hear about the fun side of their lives, such as their hobbies. Did you know that Brad Pitt has taken up pottery? Or that Nick Offerman enjoys woodworking? (Okay, maybe that last one wasn’t such a surprise). On a similar note, we also know some celebrities have dabbled in competitive sports, sometimes pretty seriously. So, who are the celebrities with a more athletic side, you ask? Let’s see.

Colin Farrell

Colin Farrell, whose father was a pro soccer player, considered the same path and played as a kid, presumably at a high level. While he clearly didn’t choose that professional path, he is still a fan of the sport. His father claimed he “wasn’t hungry enough” to pursue soccer professionally – which was true. Fortunately for us, he was hungry enough to pursue acting in L.A.!

George Clooney

Clooney is more than just a pretty face; he played baseball as an outfielder and “could catch anything, but couldn’t throw well.” He even attended a tryout with the Cincinnati Reds, reports Medium.com, but he didn’t make it past the first round. Eventually, he turned in his mitt for a career in acting instead and has done considerably better than he would have done as a baseball player.

Will Smith

Did you know that Will Smith is a fencer? In a write-up on fun celebrity interests, Poker.org revealed that Smith took up the hobby as a means of staying fit and hanging out with some celebrity pals. We know that Smith doesn’t really seem to go halfway with anything, so it’s easy to assume he’s quite good!

Terry Crews

Surprise! Crews, with his muscular stature and more than 6 feet in height, enjoys sports. Again, this isn’t a surprise. What might be a surprise for you, though, is the fact that Terry Crews actually played in the NFL as a linebacker. Even more surprising, however, is the fact that he played the flute as a young boy. It’s not a sport, but it’s endearing nonetheless.

Tina Fey

You may know her from her role in Modern Love – but did you know that she took that role because she liked the idea of getting free tennis lessons? She also played in high school, so she definitely has a background in the sport.

Chris Pratt

Pratt participated in wrestling for an entire 12 years before his graduation in 1997. While he didn’t pursue a professional career as a wrestler, he did end up sending a text to WWE champion Dave Bautista, Insider reports. Nothing came of it, and Pratt admitted that he probably wouldn’t have won anyway.

These are just a few of the celebrities that have spent some time playing sports, mostly before their current careers. And who knows? Maybe they’ll pick up these hobbies again in the future.
